The Mount Vernon Lady Mustangs Girls Varsity Basketball team is on the rise, with a very successful season, so far. Their 9-5 record (2-1 region) is already more solid than last year and they don’t plan to slow down anytime soon. Leading the team are captains Bliss Mallory (senior), Evelyn Sharkey (senior), and Autumn Burnette (junior).
Having competed against Riverwood, Strong Rock Christian, and Pace Academy, the team has yet to face Green Forest and AIS.
This is a year of growth for the girls basketball program which includes the inaugural girls junior varsity team, who, jut like their older counterparts, are doing extremely well. The girls’ teams are like family and it shows on the court. Everyone collaborates, resulting in strong outcomes at every turn. Coach Burnette, Coach Luck and Coach Hill are teaching the girls to take advantage of every opportunity available, focusing on the benefit for the team.
The lessons these girls learn in the gym apply not only to basketball, but to life.
