Back Together Again

God is good – all the time! And all the time – God is good!

If you’ve ever experienced a Preschool or Lower School Chapel, you are used to hearing this chant shouted throughout the Sanctuary – something members of the Mount Vernon community truly missed last year while Chapel services remained virtual.

This morning, Lower Campus students were back together to share in fellowship and worship, kicking off the first Chapel service of the year with a shout of God’s goodness.

At Mount Vernon, we believe relationships are foundational to learning. As we navigated the past year and a half of being in school, physical togetherness was not an option, while students across all four divisions were staying safe by learning, playing, and worshipping in their β€œbubbles.”

Lower Campus Head of Community and Culture Elisse Hayes shared, β€œOur young Mustangs missed connecting with old friends and building friendships with new Mustangs!”

Thankfully, this year our students have the space and opportunity to be back together, safely – building relationships in their classrooms, their grade, their division, and within the School as a whole. On both campuses, Mustangs have returned to in-person Chapel, and in Lower School students have returned to their morning routine of playing on the Courtyard together before their morning meetings.

In 2019, family-style lunches were introduced in the Lower School, encouraging students to try new things and engage in meaningful conversations over a meal. After spending a year eating lunch in their classrooms, students and faculty are grateful to be back in Fellowship Hall to have lunch together. As Mount Vernon continues to have students, their families, and faculty safety at the forefront of its mind, as a school, we are grateful for the moments of togetherness that have returned to campus this year. We are Mount Vernon. And we are better together.
